Upon completion of the Fair Housing Training, participants will be able to: -Understand why fair housing laws were necessary by learning about the history of housing discrimination and its lasting impact. -Identify the laws that make housing discrimination illegal, and the actions prohibited and required by these laws in the business of real estate. -Know the personal characteristics that federal law protects from discrimination in housing, including race, color, religion, national origin, sex, familial status, and disability. -Distinguish state and local government protections that may exceed federal protections. -Explain what steering is, and discuss strategies to avoid it. -Describe what reasonable accommodations and modifications for people with disabilities may be required by fair housing laws. -Describe best practices in fair housing marketing. -Identify what resources are available to provide fair housing information and assistance to clients. -Recognize the danger in making assumptions based on stereotypes, and the importance of allowing consumers to choose which communities/neighborhoods they want to live in. -Utilize interventions to interrupt implicit bias so that consumers are treated with equal concern, respect, and fairness. *We are currently in the 2025-2027 requirement block. All Realtors® and Appraisers are required to complete a 2 Hour Fair Housing upon becoming a member & every 3 years after, in addition to the Code of Ethics. Cheryl has taught classes for a variety of brokerages, Real Estate schools and different Realtor Boards throughout Utah. She was the Salt Lake Board President in 2016 and served on the Salt Lake Board of Directors for 8 years. She currently serves on the Professional Standards, Government Affairs Committee, and Education Committees for SLBR and the Legislative Committee for Utah Association of Realtors, and is a licensed Continuing Education instructor through the Utah Division of Real Estate. She loves to teach Realtors, new or experienced and strives to have a classroom atmosphere with student input and relative discussions. This course is certified for 2 CORE CE Hours. To receive credit, you cannot miss more than 12 minutes.EDUCATION POLICY: The Salt Lake Board is a CE provider and must comply with strict regulations set forth and enforced by the Utah Division of Real Estate. Per Division rules, all licensees must be in attendance for at least 90% of a course (54 minutes out of 60). To receive CE Credit you may miss the following amount of time: 6 minutes of a 1-hour course, 12 minutes of a 2-hour course and 18 minutes of a 3-hour+ course. These time limits apply even in the event of heavy traffic, severe weather conditions and the like. We monitor attendance from check-in, through all class breaks, and up until check out. Licensees who miss more than 10% of any CE course OR who fail to check in and/or check out will not be eligible to receive CE credit. Course Cancellation requires 24 hours/1 full business day notice. Designation Courses require 48 hours/2 business days' notice. Class cancellations received after these deadlines will not be eligible for refunds or credits. Courses that do not exceed the cost of $25.00 will not be eligible for refunds. If a course cannot be attended and the Board is notified within the sufficient amount of time, the cost of the course may be used as credit towards another course offered at the Board. Courses that exceed $25.00 may be issued refunds, if cancellation is given within the sufficient time period.
